Member Profile: Rick Smith
Rick has a BFA in studio arts from Auburn University and an MFA in photography from Columbia College Chicago. His early career was as a graphic designer (art directing many photo shoots), after which he spent many years freelancing as an illustrator, while painting all the while. He has had numerous group and solo shows in painting and photography, and his work is in numerous corporate and private collections. Rick taught photography at Columbia College Chicago from 2004 to 2010 after which he relocated to Nashville, his hometown, to pursue an ongoing book project. He currently teaches at the Art Institute of Tennessee, Nashville, and has also recently begun aerial photography work. Rick was invited to join Southlight in October, 2012, and is its newest member.
MOST MEMORABLE SOUTHLIGHT MOMENT
At Folly Beach, accidentally stepping backwards off a sandbar ledge into 10 feet of water while shooting. Lost a good camera and lens that day.
